Brace yourself.....you're going to the Orthodontist.

This is probably one of the most talked about subjects right now in Highschool...braces. Most people now either already have their braces off or are about to get them off. I'm still one of those people that have horribly crooked teeth, but I'm on the road to getting perfectly straight teeth! However, instead of having braces I have Invisalign.

For those of you who don't know what Invisalign is I'll explain it to you. Invisalign is a teeth straightener using custom- made series of aligners created for your teeth. The aligners are made of almost invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will move your teeth into without any metal brackets, no wires or bands!! You just change the aligners every 2-3 weeks until your teeth are perfectly straight. Invisalign is a lot less bothersome than metal braces and the best part is you can eat anything you want and most people won't even know you have them on.

This was way more appealing to me than having metal in my mouth. From what people have told me it's really painful to have braces and the worst part is that they have soo many food restrictions. I don't know about you, but I like to eat anything I want. Since my teeth are crooked I don't like to draw attention to my mouth so I love that you can't see when I'm wearing my aligners. I have to admit they are pretty uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it after a couple days. And yes I did experience pain, but that was mostly from my expanders and the first couple days with a new aligner.

Before I actually got my aligners, I had to have expanders for 8 months. It was soo horrible. An expander is used to widen the upper jaw so that the bottom and upper teeth fit together. It was literally a big metal thing in the roof of my mouth. It hurt so much and it was very uncomfortable. Food would constantly get stuck in it and I had a horrible lisp. I'm so happy to have that horrid thing out of my mouth. Now I just have to change my aligners every 2-3 weeks and then finally I'll have straight teeth!!!!
